Monsters, birds, grouches and humans, oh my! Sesame Street characters are coming to the Iowa State Fair this year. Come celebrate 50years of Sesame Street by seeing your favorite characters sculpted in butter. Standing alongside the iconic Iowa State Fair butter cow, Sesame Street will come alive in the John Deere Agriculture Building throughout the Iowa State Fair, August 8-18, 2019.
Sesame Street started as a colorful community of monsters, birds, grouches and humans 50 years ago, a place where everyone counts. Sesame Street’s founders changed children’s television forever with a diverse cast, a research-based curriculum and iconic characters. Kids of all ages will remember their favorite characters and lessons as they walk by the butter cooler.
The Iowa State Fair has a rich, long-lasting tradition with Iowa Public Television (IPTV), also celebrating their 50th anniversary. With shows like Sesame Street and their Iowa State Fair shows, IPTV has provided quality and innovative programming to educate, inform, enrich and inspire Iowans throughout the state.
The butter cow has been sculpted at the Iowa State Fair since 1911. Various companion sculptures have joined the butter cow since 1996, including the American Gothic, Elvis Presley, the Peanuts Gang, Harry Potter and many more popular events, people or characters.
