Oskaloosa Fareway Grocery Bagger Wins State Fair Contest

The best grocery baggers from across the state put their skills to the test in the Iowa Grocery Industry’s Best Bagger Contest held August 9 at the 2024 Iowa State Fair.

Titus Doak of the Oskaloosa Fareway won first place.

Brady Diercks of the Fareway Store in Marion claimed second place. Samantha Reed of the Hy-Vee store in Altoona earned third place and Daven Peterson of the Boone Fareway took fourth place.

Contestants are challenged to bag identical grocery orders consisting of approximately 35 commonly purchased items into three reusable grocery bags. They are then scored and ranked primarily on weight distribution among bags, speed of bagging and proper item arrangement.

All non-perishable food items used in the competition are donated to the Food Bank of Iowa
