Winterset Cook Claims State Fair Bacon Cooking Honors

Susan Jones of Winterset won First Place and a $150 cash award in the Bacon Anything Goes competition judged Friday, August 9, at the 2024 Iowa State Fair.

Julie Petersen of Knoxville earned Second Place and Patrick Conlan of Pleasant Hill claimed Third Place.

Contestants were challenged to devise new ways to enjoy bacon.

Entries were judged on taste, creativity, presentation and an accompanying story.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There were 140 divisions, 726 classes and over 6,400 entries at this year’s Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center.
