Food: Best Fruit Cobbler, Bettie or Buckle

Buckle-Up for Fair Cobbler, Bettie or Buckle Honors

Anita Van Gundy of Des Moines won first place and a $500 cash award in the Best Fruit Cobbler, Bettie or Buckle competition, judged Sunday, August 11, at the 2024 Iowa State Fair.

Susan Jones of Winterset earned second place and $250. Angela Miller of West Des Moines claimed third place and $125.

Entries were judged on taste, originality and appearance.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There were 140 divisions, 726 classes and over 6,400 entries at this year’s Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center.
