Zeitler of Iowa City Claims State Fair Canned Veggies Honors

Rod Zeitler of Iowa City won First and Second Places Overall, the Sweepstakes Award, and a total of $250 in gift cards in the Fleet Farm Canned Vegetables competition, judged Tuesday, August 6, prior to the start of the 2024 Iowa State Fair.

Susan Schultz of Haverhill earned Third Place Overall and a $50 gift card.

West Des Moines’ Jacqueline Riekena claimed Reserve Sweepstakes honors.

Entries were judged on appearance, selection of product and food safety.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There are 140 divisions, 726 classes and over 6,400 entries at this year’s Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center.
