Bouton Cook Wins State Fair Jellies Title
David Wambold of Bouton won First Place Overall in the Fleet Farm Classic Iowa Canned Jellies competition judged Wednesday, August 7, at the 2024 Iowa State Fair.
Lashelle Woods of Newton earned Second Place Overall and Michelle Westphal of Waterloo claimed Third Place Overall.
George Ellerbach of Iowa City won the Sweepstakes Award.
Rod Zeitler of Iowa City and Louise Piper of Garner tied for Reserve Sweepstakes honors
Jellies are a semi-solid mixture generally made with fruit juice and sugar. Flavored liquids other than fruit juice may be use. Jelly is a translucent and tender enough to cut easily with a spoon, yet frim enough to hold its shape with turned from a jar.
Entries were judged on flavor, consistency, appearance and adherence to food safety rules.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There were 140 divisions, 726 classes and over 6,400 entries at this year’s Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center.
