Hot Dishes Judged at State Fair

Susan Jones of Winterset won first place and a $1,200 cash award in the Food Bank of Iowa Chopped-Hot Dish Edition Competition judged Sunday, August 18, at the 2024 Iowa State Fair.

Tieysa Wood of Des Moines earned second place and a $700 cash award. Holly Houg of Urbandale claimed third place and a $500 cash award.

Entries were judged on flavor, ease of preparation and appearance.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There were 140 divisions, 726 classes and nearly 6,400 entries at this year’s Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center.
