Food: Gaga's Red Cake

Top Red Cake Wins State Fair Blue Ribbon

Brian Keul of West Des Moines won first place and a $250 cash award in the Gaga’s Red Cake competition judged Monday, August 12, at the 2024 Iowa State Fair.

Jessica Denner of Polk City claimed second place and $150. Amy Fuson of Indianola earned third place and $100.

Entries were judged on taste, texture, appearance and creativity.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There were 140 divisions, 726 classes and over 6,400 entries at this year’s Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center.
