Chefs Master Mystery Sack Ingredients in Iowa State Fair Cooking Contest

Maggie Stalzer of Haverhill won first place and $300 in the Iowa State Fair Mystery Sack – Adult competition judged Sunday, August 18, at the 2024 Iowa State Fair.

Alan Hilgerson of West Des Moines won second place and $150. Lori Hilgerson of West Des Moines received third place and $75.

Entries were judged on taste and best use of products.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There were 140 divisions, 726 classes and over 6,400 entries at this year’s Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center.
