Food: Kids Chef Baking Championship Level 2

Junior Chefs Win State Fair Honors

Caitlin Caffrey of Ankeny won First Place Overall and a $150 cash award in the Kids Chef Baking Championship: Level 2 competition, judged Saturday, August 17, at the 2024 Iowa State Fair.

Gwen Livingston of Shannon City earned Second Place Overall and $60. Wyatt Swinton of Ankeny claimed Third Place Overall and $40.

Contestants were challenged to create an award-winning kid-prepared food item accompanied by a written story that explained why they chose that dish to enter.

Entries were judged on flavor, appearance and attached written story.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There were 140 divisions, 726 classes and over 6,400 entries at this year’s Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center.
