Lemon Meringue Pie Winners Named at State Fair

Andrew Picchietti of Johnston won first place and a $125 cash award in the Lemon Meringue Pie Competition, judged Sunday, August 18, at the 2024 Iowa State Fair.

Anita Van Gundy of Des Moines earned second place and a $75 cash award. Belinda Myers of Osceola claimed third place and a $50 cash award.

Entries were judged on flavor, texture and appearance.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There were 140 divisions, 726 classes and nearly 6,400 entries at this year’s Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center.
