Blue Cheese Shines in State Fair Recipe Competition

Amber Wagner of Prairie City won first place and a $500 cash award in the Maytag Dairy Farms Blue Cheese Recipe competition judged Saturday, August 17, at the 2024 Iowa State Fair.

Pamela Reynolds of Norwalk earned second place and $250. Susan Jones of Winterset earned third place and $100.

Contestants were challenged to create an award-winning recipe that featured Maytag Blue Cheese as the primary flavor.

Entries were judged on flavor pairing, creativity and presentation.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There were 140 divisions, 726 classes and over 6,400 entries at this year’s Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center.
