Best Brownies Win State Fair Honors

Cheryl Ashwill of Des Moines won first place and a $25 cash award in the My Best Brownies competition judged Wednesday, August 14, at the 2024 Iowa State Fair.

Susan Desmond of Urbandale claimed second place and $15. Molly Thomas of Centerville earned third place and $10.

Entries were judged on taste, creativity and appearance.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There were 140 divisions, 726 classes and over 6,400 entries at this year’s Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center.
