Food: Snack Time with Live Healthy Iowa

On-the-Go Snacks Win at State Fair

Cooks from around the state entered their best satisfying snacks in the Snack Time with Live Healthy Iowa competition judged Friday, August 16, at the 2024 Iowa State Fair.

Ellen Reeder of Des Moines won first place and a $75 gift card.

Dawn Shaw of Pella earned second place and a $50 gift card. Angela Miller of West Des Moines claimed third place and a $25 gift card.

Contestants were tasked with making a healthy, satisfying and appealing snack that works well for an on-the-go lifestyle.

Entries were judged on nutrition, taste and appearance

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There were 140 divisions, 726 classes and over 6,400 entries at this year’s Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center.
