Food: Strawberry-Rhubarb Dessert

Polk City Baker Wins State Fair Strawberry-Rhubarb Crown

Jessica Denner of Polk City won first place and a $25 cash award in the Strawberry-Rhubarb Dessert competition judged Wednesday, August 14, at the 2024 Iowa State Fair.

Jamie Buelt of Polk City earned second place and $15. Mary Burr of Iowa City earned third place and $10.

Contestants were challenged to create an award-worthy rhubarb dessert.

Entries were judged on taste, appearance and creativity.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There were 140 divisions, 726 classes and over 6,400 entries at this year’s Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center.
