Turkey Calling Crowns Claimed at State Fair

The top turkey callers from across the state put their vocal styling to the test in the Turkey Calling Contest, held Thursday, August 8, at the 2024 Iowa State Fair.

Ervin Eiben of Monticello won first place in the Adult Division of competition.

Brandon De Jong of Oelwein claimed second place and Jerry Pettyjohn of Oskaloosa earned third place.

Liam Cretsinger of Coon Rapids won top prize in the Youth Division.

Brody Steenblock of Panora claimed second place.

The contest was part of “Rural Americana Olde Tyme Competitions” in Farm Bureau Pioneer Hall. A first prize of $5 and ribbons were awarded to each class.
